There's no need to see any loading screens, like Elite Dangerous, it can be hidden. This is exactly what Bethesda would need to do with Starfield. However, it also needs to load that as an instance.Įlite Dangerous handles travel between planets by using instances. To be clear, space is seamless between planets (at least within a solar system), but the game still needs to load each area of space where there are things to interact with (ships, asteroids, space debris, etc), and the planet itself cant be interacted with, you have to load whichever place on the surface you choose to go to still.Įlite dangerous is very similar, but still more seamless in that you can actually smealessly descend down to a planets surface. It would completely change the game and it's the biggest complaint about the game that has tarnished it's launch. They needn't worry about being too realistic and true to the propulsion system for that, because, loading screens and fast travel is already obviously 100% unrealistic, so it's not really a good argument against it.Īt least this would be infinitely more immersive and better. So, I think they should have done it all like Elite Dangerous, but just speed it up - make the ship move unrealistically fast between planets. I agree it doesn't really work well for the tech the ships in starfield are using.īut then you have to consider that they are speeding up everything anyway, like when you go to land on a planet. I’m not asking for a Space sim, I’m asking for a game as big as this to not feel one mile long and an inch deep when it comes to exploration.
We went from Open World RPG’s to fast travel simulators. The feeling of constantly being contained and limited, almost as if I’m playing a linear single player game is just not pleasant at all. Its like trying to exit Whiterun in Skyrim then fast traveling to the open world, then in the open world you walk to your horse, go through a menu, and now you fast travel on your horse in a cutscene to Solitude. This game isn’t open world, it handles the map worse than Skyrim or Fallout 4, with those games you can walk everywhere, Starfield is just a constant stream of teleporting where you have to be and cranking out missions. I tried liking it, but the constant loading in a space environment translates poorly compared to games like Skyrim and fallout, with Skyrim and fallout you feel like you’re in this world and can walk anywhere you want, with Starfield I feel like I’m contained in a new box every 5 minutes.
